GLASA CONCUSSION POLICY

In accordance with the US Soccer Concussion Initiative GLASA has instituted the following procedures in regards to match play and potential head injuries.

It is important to realize that head injuries may be caused by many situations including contact between head and ball, head and ground, head and goal, head and other player etc.

Match Play:

  1. No Heading will be allowed in Recreational games for U12 and under age groups.  Competitive leagues do allow heading for U12 matches.
  2. Any Coach who plays a player who has suffered a potential head injury prior to evaluation by a certified GLASA Athletic Trainer is subject to disciplinary action.

Procedure:

If any potential head injury is suspected by any Referee, League Official or Athletic Trainer the player will be removed from the game until they can be evaluated by a certified GLASA employed Athletic Trainer.  If no trainer is available the player should not return to the game.

Due to liability concerns, only a GLASA employed Athletic Trainer may give clearance for the player to re-enter the game after they have been evaluated.  NO OTHER medical personal may clear a player for game re-entry.

GLASA will make an attempt to have Athletic Trainers available on Saturdays at Railroad Park, Chinn Chapel and Lake Park.  Ask your Referee if a trainer is available prior to the start of the match.  It is the coaches responsibility to contact the Trainer if necessary during the match.
